Teams play in the Aegon National, Essex, Leigh & Westcliff and Southend & District competitions throughout the year, with Men’s, Ladies’, Mixed and Junior teams all competing. If you are interested in playing for a team, please check the TENNIS@TBLTC/TEAMS page on our website and contact the Captain for your level of play or speak to any of the coaches and they will be more than happy to point you in the right direction or introduce you to the relevant person.

Box leagues are run all year round for both Ladies and Mixed. Check out the TENNIS@TBLTC/BOX LEAGUES website page for details of the current leagues and dates. Anybody wanting to join a future Box should speak to Barry Page and he will take you through the process.

Club tournaments are held in the Autumn, Winter and Summer, with the latter culminating in the Club Championships, held in July. These tournaments are open to players of all abilities, with ‘open’ events for the highest standard of players and other groups catered for including age groups and handicap events. Entry sheets are posted in advance on the Clubhouse notice board and the current events can be found on the TENNIS@TBLTC/TOURNAMENTS website page.

American Tournaments are played regularly throughout the year and dates of the upcoming tournaments can be viewed on the NEWS and EVENTS section of the website. The American format is great fun and is an excellent way of meeting other members of the Club. Tournaments are often followed by either lunch in the Clubhouse or an evening meal/party; depending on when the tournament starts.

A social tennis session is held each Sunday from 12.00 to 14.00 and allows all Full Playing members the chance to meet up and play with other members of the Club. These are ‘turn up and play’ events and the coaching team will pair up players of similar standards and abilities, making it a great opportunity for players of varying abilities.

A weekly ladies’ morning is held every Tuesday from 10.00 to 11.30, organised by our Ladies’ Captain, to give all of our Lady members a chance to meet up and play tennis together. You don’t need to book in advance, just ‘turn up and play’. If you want to know more about these sessions then contact Jackie Sirdifield and she will be pleased to help.

Tennis Tuesdays (M&NM), with support from the LTA, have been introduced recently and have proved an instant success. Whether you already play tennis and want to join a group of a similar standard to improve your game, or whether you are completely new to the sport, these sessions are for you.  They are also a chance to have fun and enjoy the sun and facilities at TBLTC! They run every Tuesday morning (9.30 to 11.00) with Matt Bell and every Tuesday evening (19.30 to 21.00) with Graham Boosey and all are welcome, so why not bring along friends and make a morning/evening of it. There is a charge of £5 per person per session but this includes a tea/coffee/drink afterwards and a chance to chat on the terrace or in the Clubhouse.

New joinersessions are organised throughout the year and allow new members to come along and meet other members, providing a great opportunity for all to put ‘a name to a face’ in a relaxed and friendly environment. If you haven’t been invited to one of these but are interested in attending then please contact Richard Leadley and he will be able to give you dates for forthcoming events. TASTER (M&NM) sessions are also organised regularly to allow anybody interested in taking up tennis, and joining TBLTC hopefully, to come along and give it a go.

We run a comprehensive programme of rating events (M&NM) at TBLTC for Adults (Men and Ladies), Juniors and Minis, all under the direction of British Tennis. These events use a rating tool to indicate a player’s standard of play and this is helpful both in allowing players to record their progress but also to give players access to appropriate competition. For Junior and Adult/Senior players there are 20 rating bands, starting with 10.2 (the lowest) and progressing to 1.1 (the highest and very much Andy Murray material!). More information can be found on the TENNIS@TBLTC/RATING EVENTS website page, with future dates set out in the diary under NEWS & EVENTS.

We have a thriving mini & junior tennis (M&NM) programme at TBLTC which includes Saturday morning and weekday squads and holiday camps/courses (for which a charge is made to cover the coaches’ costs) as well as regular free Mini/Cadet and Junior fun nights and competitions.

The latest schedule can be found on the COACHING/PROGRAMMES website page or speak to Catherine Marks, our Tennis Administrator, or any of the coaches and they will point you in the right direction.

Our Junior Tennis Committee meets regularly to discuss ideas about how best to develop the Mini and Junior section. Parents’ views are warmly welcomed and comments/questions on any part of the Junior Programme can be raised directly by contacting Craig Jones (Chair of the Junior Committee).
